LED lighting to be added to new condo towers in Brentwood
A pair of condominium towers in Brentwood Town Centre could see special nighttime illumination to enhance the architectural design.
Millennium Development Group has submitted a revised rezoning application to the City of Burnaby for Etoile Residences, currently under construction at 5311-5333 Goring Street — located just west of SkyTrain’s Holdom Station.

The revised design by Chris Dikeakos Architects calls for thin horizontal LED lighting strips to be installed every five floors of the 26-storey and 32-storey towers. They will be programmed to illuminate from dusk until 11 pm, with the strata having full control of the duration, timing, and intensity of the feature lighting.

“The intent of the lighting is to activate the building at night to create a landmark building within the Burnaby skyline,” reads the architect’s design rationale, noting that it will be similar to Millennium Development Group’s Triomphe, and Concord Pacific’s Arc and One Pacific towers.
“In order to mitigate the impact of light entering the suite, the LED strips will be recessed within a pre-finished metal fascia every six floors apart. The proposed lighting design reduces some light spillover to the adjacent environment. Also to minimize the impact to the neighbouring buildings, the feature lighting has been strategically designed mostly along the South elevation and turning slightly on the East and West elevations.”
When complete in 2021, Etoile will contain 398 condominiums and townhomes, and common amenities such as a 50-ft outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, cabana, steam rooms, and other rooftop spaces.
