30 cm of overnight summer snow falls on Whistler Blackcomb (PHOTOS)

What a difference a week can make. It was just last week that heat records were broken across the province, with temperatures reaching into the mid and high 30s.

Last night, light snowfall fell over the higher elevations of both mountains, with at least 30 centimetres recorded at 7th Heaven on Blackcomb.

Morning shots of the live mountain webcams also indicated light snow had fallen and accumulated onto the ground at other areas at and near the peaks.

The overnight freezing level dropped to approximately 2,000 metres, but it is not expected to return to such a low point within the foreseeable future as warm and sunny weather is in the forecast beginning Friday. Any accumulated snow will likely melt by early next week.

The current daytime freezing point is 3,100 metres and it is expected to drop to 2,500 metres before climbing up to 3,900 metres by daytime on Sunday.
