What started 13 years ago as a small group of managers rallying together at Granville Room a few weeks before Christmas has grown to over $40,000 worth of annual donations, a spirited holiday gala and a mountain of gifts for those in need.
The Annual Donnelly Fund Toy Drive begins early each December when the Donnelly Group distributes a $50 Toy’s R Us gift card to each of its 600 employees. Each person then travels to Toy’s R Us to purchase a gift to be donated to the Salvation Army, then brings the unwrapped toy to Republic Night Club to add to an enormous pile of presents and celebrate the holiday season.
These last dozen years of gatherings has resulted in almost half a million dollars in donated toys, hundreds of pounds of non perishable food and a few thousand participants in Donnelly Group’s largest annual signature event.
This has become the most anticipated Donnelly Group event of the year and they continue to be one of the largest single contributors to the Salvation Army each year and with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank included for its second year, they hope to keep that tradition growing in the many years to come.
This year they are inviting the public to bring food items or to purchase their own gifts or non-perishable food items and bring them (unwrapped) to Republic Nightclub on Tuesday, December 9 anytime after 8 pm to enjoy some seasonal cocktails, complimentary appetizers and watch the giant pile of toys grow.
