11 Ways to Improve Robson Square

By Vancity Buzz

Robson Square is known for free skating rink & dance lessons, & while these are great initiatives to create a more vibrant downtown community, here are some suggestions to make this hub even better.

  • Segway tours

    By Vancity Buzz

Although they are often laughed at , Segways are a fun and eco-friendly way to get around the city. It would be a really cool tourist spot and locals could enjoy it as well.

  • A Christmas Market every winter

    By Vancity Buzz

Though we have a German Christmas Market on West Georgia, having one in Robson Square would bring out a lot of festive people and could cover a different theme.

  • Showcase more VIVA designers

    By Vancity Buzz

VIVA Vancouver opened its Robson Square space to designers with Robson Redux, a design-build competition that invites designers to submit their design ideas related to the theme of “connection”.

  • More street performers & buskers

    By Vancity Buzz

In Vancouver, street performers often create a crowd. If we were to allow for more buskers and street performers it would make for a much more lively Robson Square.

  • Open Robson Square to pedestrians all year round

    By Vancity Buzz

Robson Square has been closed off to cars during the summer to allow people to enjoy a real city square. It would be great if the square was closed to cars and buses all year round.

  • Zip-lining

    By Vancity Buzz

Whether it’s from building to building or just to certain spots around the square, it would be a cool way to get another view of the city while receiving a mini "thrill" a la the 2010 Olympics.

  • A giant ferris wheel

    By Vancity Buzz

It is not feasible, nor would it fit, but it would be awesome to have a giant ferris wheel or similar attraction to watch the city-scape from.

  • Add pride flags

    By Vancity Buzz

Robson Square, like the rest of Vancouver, is inclusive to all. Everything looks better with a little bit of colour!

  • More free activities or activities by donation

    By Vancity Buzz

Although Robson Square already offers some fun free activities, it would be great to see some more activities throughout the year such as fitness classes, art classes & more!

  • More public art installations

    By Vancity Buzz

While many people enjoyed sticking their gum on Douglas Couplands head, even more people enjoy different forms of public art. Why not have more? Maybe even a Human Structures Vancouver piece?

  • Add hammocks around the VAG

    By Vancity Buzz

Robson Square would be so much more relaxing if they had a few dozen hammocks hung around the Art Gallery where we could relax and read in the summer.

The square’s number one problem is theat it’s primarily focused underground and that does nothing more then detract from street life. Closing the street to traffic, although problematic for some, is the first real step the city needs to take to make Robson Square a true city square.
