Woll expresses gratitude after lengthy break from Toronto Maple Leafs

Joseph Woll is quickly nearing a return to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup.
Woll has yet to play this season after leaving the Leafs during training camp due to a personal family matter. A comeback is on the horizon, however, as the 27-year-old has returned to Toronto and is set to begin an AHL conditioning stint over the weekend.
“Just being back in this environment has been nice. To see my teammates, to be back in Toronto, watching us play, watching the Blue Jays play, it’s good to be back here,” Woll told reporters on Friday.
Woll also thanked Leafs management for allowing him the time off, and was appreciative of reporters for respecting his privacy. That said, he made it clear he wasn’t interested in explaining the situation that caused his leave at this time.
“I want to start off, I have a few thank yous I want to make sure I say. Mainly to the Leafs organization, starting with Brad [Treliving] and working all the way down for all the support they’ve given me and my family for the last bit,” Woll said. “I’ve really been blown away at how much support I’ve received.
“With that, a big thank you to my teammates as well. I’ve expressed that to them, just for all the support they’ve given. Last, I want to thank you guys. I asked for privacy, and you guys have granted me that. I really appreciate that, as well.
“As we move forward, I’ve decided that all I’m going to say about my time away is that I’m disappointed to have missed time, and I’m very happy to be back. I’d really like all the focus to be on my job to do here.”

Filling in for Woll has been Cayden Primeau, though the 26-year-old happened to be placed on waivers on Friday afternoon. He had made just three starts on the season for the Maple Leafs, posting a 4.30 GAA and an .830 SV%.
Once Woll is up and running, he’s expected to work in a tandem role with Anthony Stolarz.
