The Toronto Maple Leafs are getting closer to a fuller set of players.
On Monday, goalie Joseph Woll rejoined the group for his first practice of the season after missing several weeks due to a personal leave from the team for a family matter.
“It’s great to have him back. The plan is just to get him up and going. He skated some when he was on his leave, but this is just getting back in the team setting. The plan is really to watch and adjust on a daily basis,” Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said, as per the Toronto Sun‘s Terry Koshan.
Woll, 27, is set to enter his third season with the Leafs. The 6-foot-3 netminder worked in a tandem role with Anthony Stolarz in 2024-25, posting a respectable 2.73 GAA along with a .909 SV% and a 27-14-1 record. He’s logged 78 career games in the NHL to date, managing to put together a record of 48-27-2.
Stolarz also had some kind words about his tandem partner returning to the Leafs’ net.
“We were just talking about how we miss our goalie hugs,” Stolarz said Monday, per Sportsnet’s Anna Dua.
When will Woll play next for the Leafs?
Despite Woll being eligible to return as soon as this weekend, it seems like he’ll head to the AHL for some conditioning games before joining the NHL squad. The Marlies have a home game this Wednesday with road games in Chicago on Saturday and Sunday.
The Leafs, meanwhile, have their next game after this weekend on Monday against Pittsburgh, though that’s probably too short a turnaround time after the AHL stint.
If all goes well with the Marlies, Woll is likely targeting Wednesday, Nov. 5, against Utah or Saturday, Nov. 8, versus Boston as his home return.
