The Toronto Blue Jays are rolling atop the AL East, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is keeping his eyes on the prize.
It was another sweep for the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, as they capped off a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants with an 8-6 victory in Toronto. Vladdy was a big reason why the Jays pulled out the victory, going two for three at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.
The 26-year-old did an on-field interview with Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling after the win, following the Blue Jays’ franchise-record 10th win in a row at home.
Asked what gives the Blue Jays an advantage playing at Rogers Centre, Vladdy didn’t hesitate in his answer.
“The fans. Do you not feel the love they have?” Guerrero Jr. said to loud applause. “We’re working hard to bring the World Series back to Toronto.”

At the start of the season, the thought of the Blue Jays being World Series contenders seemed like a long shot, but things have steadily changed over a few months. Suddenly, the Blue Jays are among the best teams in all of baseball and now lead the entire league in home wins.
They sit atop the AL East standings, three games up on the New York Yankees, and now have a chance to increase that lead with a three-game series against the Bronx Bombers that starts Monday night.
Vladdy has been a significant contributor to this success. After signing a massive contract extension with Toronto before the season, Guerrero Jr. has delivered. He currently leads the teams in runs scored with 61, as well as sporting an excellent .385 OBP. The Dominican-Canadian slugger also has 13 home runs and 48 RBIs, which both rank third on the Blue Jays.
Toronto hasn’t experienced World Series baseball for over 30 years, with the Blue Jays last winning it all back in 1993. They got close a decade ago, but ultimately came up short in the ALCS against Kansas City (2015) and Cleveland (2016).
We’ll see if Vladdy can help bring the Jays back to the promised land this October.
