TTC pulling streetcar service from routes on Queen Street

Those who are used to taking the Queen streetcar need to be prepared for a service disruption.

The TTC says it’s pulling streetcar service from routes operating on Queen Street and west of Roncesvalles due to damaged brake systems on the vehicles.

This includes the 501, 501L, and 508 streetcars and until the issue is resolved, buses will be running until further notice.

“We’ve found damage to the brake system on seven streetcars on these routes,” the TTC said Wednesday afternoon. “This is in an abundance of caution.”

The TTC says crews are now investigating the cause of the damage, which may include track damage that made contact with the streetcars’ brake systems.

“We recommend customers normally using 501, 501L, and 508 seek alternative routes where possible,” said TTC spokesperson Stuart Green. “Buses will likely be crowded.”

“We apologize for this inconvenience, but as always, it’s safety first,” said Green.
