TTC activating external-facing cameras on buses and streetcars this month

Jan 22 2019, 4:50 am

To further enhance public and customer safety, the TTC is about to activate external-facing cameras on its surface vehicles.

External-facing cameras on transit vehicles (bus, streetcar and Wheel-Trans) will be activated as of January 28, as per the TTC.

The use of external-facing cameras will allow the TTC to accurately investigate incidents, support the investigation of customer complaints and claims and improve safety for customers and the public.

According to the TTC, “Toronto is one of the last municipalities in Ontario to implement forward-facing and external cameras on surface vehicles, and this has been a long-standing gap in our incident investigations model.”

The TTC says that decals will be posted on the vehicles to notify the public that the vehicle exteriors are actively recording.

The transit commission will also notify the public about the camera activation through their website, social media and print ads.
