5 Toronto restaurants to support on this week's Takeout Day

May 20 2020, 5:08 pm

While the restaurant industry works to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances of recent days, every Wednesday has been named “Takeout Day.”

Just because we can’t visit our favourite restaurants in a regular fashion right now doesn’t mean we can’t continue to support them.

If you have a hankering for a no-cook meal and you’d like to show some love to a local eatery, consider placing an order through one of our picks for this week’s Takeout Day:

Pompette

Little Italy’s newest French restaurant is officially open! (Ish.) Still fresh to the neighbourhood, Pompette is starting its College Street-life with cuisine and booze offerings available for preorder online and pickup in-house. We’re talkin’ terrine, braised beef cheeks, spelt sourdough, and beyond. Don’t hesitate — French fare awaits.

Extra Burger’s Parkdale location continues to sling out the goods. This smashed patty is topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and special sauce, and it’s your saving grace after one beer too many. Add another patty, or bacon, if you want to really indulge. The spot also offers up a mean fried chicken sandwich — think A MdD’s Junior Chicken, elevated. No matter what, your choice will be bliss served on a potato roll.

Address: 269 Dunn Avenue
Ordering method: Stop by for takeout or order via Uber Eats

Lansdowne’s finest returns. Donna’s is currently accepting preorders for next-day pick-up, meaning you can support the shop on Takeout Day and enjoy your grub on Thursday — or “Friday Junior.” Which seems like a perfect day to enjoy a roast beef or a ham sandwich. Plus shrimp salad sammies, pea salad, toasted almond brioche, wine, beer, merch, and so much more.

One of Kensington’s most delicious and schmancy joints for handhelds and Palomas is now offering delivery. The menu, of course, is riddled with tacos: meat-heavy, veg-heavy, and seafood-heavy alike. There are also the options of chips and guac, empanadas, desserts (tres leches!) and plenty more… including lots of booze. You can order directly through the spot’s website for takeout or delivery, or via Uber Eats.

Address: 2a Kensington Avenue
Ordering method: Online or through Uber Eats

Sometimes you simply need a proper, greasy, cheesy slice. Both of Maker’s locations are offering takeout and delivery right now, which means that with a few clicks of some buttons, Dr. Pepperoni can be yours. Order a couple pies, pop the cork off a bottle of red, and cheers to the fact that we’re only one day into the week but already half-way to the weekend.
