It’s been a whirlwind summer for the Toronto Raptors.

After a franchise-first championship win against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, it’s been non-stop celebrations and public appearances for the team.

And more often than not, the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy has been the star of the show.

Following the historic win, members of the team—and even Raptors ambassador and superfan Drake — have had their turn with the award, with many of them taking it back to their home town to celebrate with friends and family.

Over the weekend, it was time for Raptors president Masai Ujiri to have his moment with the golden trophy, and he brought it with him to Zaria, Nigeria, where he grew up.

“Taking the trophy back to where it all began gave me chills,” wrote Ujiri in a statement published by the Raptors on social media.

“I would not change anything about my youth. WOW. Zaria!!!!”

“Seeing all my friends and teammates, house where I lived, was such a joy,” Ujiri continued. “Thank you Coach OBJ, for bringing ball in my life.”
