Holding onto your access to free reads in Toronto just got easier.
Because the Toronto Public Library is now offering the chance to renew your library card online.
Library cards expire every year, and until recently, it was necessary to visit a library branch in person to renew it.
Now, those with eligible accounts can visit the TPL website, saving them a trip. The online service is available to adults and teens with standard accounts.

You can renew your card online from 30 days ahead of the expiry dateĀ and any time after, including after the expiry date has passed. If you’re eligible, you’ll see an alert on your account with a link that leads you through the process.
Children and people with non-standard account types (temporary, non-resident, etc.) still have to renew their cards in person.
Additionally, if your address or name has changed, you’ll need to visit a library branch with a piece of ID to renew.
