Toronto police have arrested a man in the US and charged him with abduction following an investigation that has lasted over 30 years, officials say.

On Wednesday, February 5, officers reportedly arrested Allan Mann Jr., 67, in New York on an extradition warrant.

Police say that they had been searching for him since 1987, after he is alleged to have abducted his then-21-month-old son on June 24 of that same year.

The abduction is alleged to have happened during a scheduled visitation to Canada.

Mann had previously been arrested by US authorities on Friday, October 26, 2018, in Vernon, Connecticut.

Police say that when that arrest occurred, his then 33-year-old son — who had learned mere hours before that his father had allegedly abducted him — was reunited with his mother.

He had reportedly been told that she had died when he was young.

Now, Mann has been returned to Canada and is charged.
