A Toronto man has been charged after an 86-year-old died following a fall in his home, according to police.

Officers say they attended a hospital in relation to a case of suspected elder abuse on April 13, 2018.

It was alleged that on April 9 of that year, 86-year-old Joon Kim, of Toronto, fell out of a chair onto his bedroom floor and, over the next several days, another man who lived in the house did not help him.

On April 13, 2018, the man reportedly called an ambulance after he checked on the 86-year-old and found him unresponsive.

Kim was pronounced deceased on May 26, 2018.

Ji Yong Kim, 52, of Toronto, was arrested and, at the time, charged with Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life and Criminal Negligence Cause Death.

The case is now before the courts and an additional charge of Manslaughter was laid during the preliminary inquiry.
