When it comes to pickles, you either love them or you’re wrong.

While Toronto is a concrete jungle, there are still plenty of local fermented goodies available for true pickle connoisseurs.

Here are five Ontario-based pickle-people whose goods will meet your preserve-needs.

Alchemy Pickle Company

Alchemy sources their veggies from farms around Southern Ontario and sells them at various retailers. You can find their pickles, sauerkraut and other treats at Sanagan’s Meat Locker in Kensington Market and Süüp Health Bar at Yonge and College streets.

Mighty Fine Brine

“Handmade with love in Canada,” these pickles are crafted in Toronto. Pickles, horseradish and chilis are among their delightfully sour products. They also have kraut-chi. Kraut-chi! Mighty’s available at plenty of places around the city, including Whole Foods and Fiesta Farms.

Marty’s Pickles

Marty uses Ontario-grown produce and a special spice formulation to pack his pickles with a unique punch. His products are available at Bruno’s Fine Foods and Coppa’s Fresh Market in Toronto, as well as online.

Family-owned, Spade and Spoon is operated from a farm near Mount Forest, Ontario. Their many flavours of pickles are available alongside their jams, chutneys and wild fermentations at the Dufferin Grove, Sorauren Park and Montgomery’s Inn Farmers’ Markets.

This husband and wife team started by growing asparagus, which led to pickling asparagus, which led to pickling a bunch of other goodies as well. Snack on baby dills, garlic, jalapeños or their original asparagus. Available in various shops around London and Chatham-Kent, Torontonians can get these snacks easily online.
