Just a week after being recognized as a next generation leader by TIME magazine, Toronto-born Abel Tesfaye, better known as the Weeknd, continues to make headlines.

Thursday morning it was revealed that Tesfaye is backing a new Toronto-based creative agency and artist incubator space called HXOUSE.

The incubator was founded by La Mar Taylor, the creative director behind the Weeknd’s XO brand and sports-and-entertainment marketer Ahmed Ismail.

“HXOUSE is a next-generation incubator and accelerator that is at the forefront of fostering innovation and opportunity for creative entrepreneurs,” says the company’s website.

It will facilitate connections between artists and industry professionals to build “mutually beneficial relationships between future talent and current industry titans.”

With an opening date set for November 2018, HXOUSE is part of the $28.4-million Artscape Daniels Launchpad’s 30,000 sq. ft. space at the former site of the Guvernment-Koolhaus Entertainment Complex on Queen’s Quay.
