Toronto remains under heat warning as humid conditions continue

Sep 7 2016, 11:38 pm

A heat warning is in effect for the city of Toronto today, again.

In case you hadn’t noticed, it is hot outside. The humid conditions, which began on Tuesday, will continue throughout the day with maximum temperatures reaching the low thirties and humid values topping that to the low forties.

According to the Weather Network, the humidity will remain very high on Thursday, but the temperatures will not be as hot and there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the day.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose elevated health risks, such as heat stroke.

The City of Toronto’s seven cooling centres are open during the heat wave:
• Metro Hall – 55 John St. (Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; weekends: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
• East York Civic Centre – 850 Coxwell Ave. (Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; weekends: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
• North York Civic Centre – 5100 Yonge St. (Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; weekends: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
• Etobicoke Civic Centre – 399 The West Mall (Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; weekends: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
• Driftwood Community Centre – 4401 Jane St. (11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days/week)
• McGregor Community Centre – 2231 Lawrence Ave. E. (11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days/week)
• Centennial Community Centre – 1967 Ellesmere Rd. (11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days/week)

Additionally, air-conditioned shopping malls, and 170 local libraries and neighbourhood community centres are open to the public to provide relief from the heat.
