Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for the City of Toronto.

The weather statement was posted on Friday afternoon and warns that frost is expected tonight as temperatures plummet to nearly 0°C.

The frost should come to an end on Saturday morning as temperatures gradually warm.

“Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas,” Environment Canada said. “Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.”

“Frost may damage some crops in frost-prone areas.”

A special weather statement issued on Friday morning regarding “strong northwesterly winds” will remain in effect for the next few hours.

Environment Canada said gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected into Friday evening before gradually easing.

According to the weather authority’s forecast, there’s a 30% chance of showers on Friday evening as well.

Rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend and will drench the city until at least Thursday.
