Toronto is now under a freezing rain warning

Feb 20 2019, 11:59 pm

Environment Canada has upgraded its previous special weather statement into a warning.

According to the national weather agency, periods of snow will begin near noon, then change over to freezing rain later this evening.

“Freezing rain is expected or occurring,” states the warning.

This wintry mix of precipitation is associated with a Colorado low that is currently tracking toward the Great Lakes.

The freezing rain will change to occasional rain or drizzle near midnight as temperatures rise above the zero degree mark.

The weather agency is also advising the public that untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery and that travel may be affected.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Drivers need to slow down driving in slippery conditions and watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.

Regardless of your plans this evening, make sure to give yourself enough time to get to your destination.
