We’re officially one day closer to the weekend, Toronto.

In case you’re already in the mood to blow off some steam, we’ve rounded up the top events happening across the city today.


What: The Canadian National Exhibition might mark the beginning of the end of summer each year but that also means there’s still time for one last hurrah this season. If you haven’t already had your fill of festival foods and outrageous concessions, here’s your chance.

When: Now until September 3
Time: The grounds are open daily from 10 am to midnight, but attractions and rides all close at different times

Price: General admission is $9.99 on weeknights

The Edwards Summer Music Series

What: Tonight is the final evening to enjoy a free concert set in the natural beauty of gardens. Tonight’s performance from Ms. Coco Murray will take place in the courtyard adjacent to the historic barn in Edwards Gardens.

When: August 23
Time: 7 pm
Where: Toronto Botanical Garden, 777 Lawrence Ave East

C!C!C! sings for Aretha: “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman”

What: You can pay your respects to Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, through song this evening, as Toronto’s very own CHOIR! CHOIR! CHOIR!, the open choir group, will be hosting a tribute concert for Franklin.

When: Thursday, August 23
Time: Doors open at 7 pm, singing begins at 8 pm

Parkway Forest Park Free Movies: To Catch a Theif

What: This evening, movie buffs can enjoy a free flick at Parkway Forest Park as part of Toronto Outdoor Picture Show’s Cinematic Cities programme, which is a month-long series of outdoor films celebrating cities on screen, at home, and abroad. Tonight’s feature screening is To Catch a Thief and the short is Lucky Moose.

What: You can enjoy a free screening of the movie Breaking Away, a film about a teen’s obsession with the Italian cycling team in small town America at the St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood BIA’s Movies in St. James Park. Don’t forget a blanket and the popcorn.
