A positive COVID-19 case has been reported to a Toronto Eaton Centre clothing store, Uniqlo, by a shopper this past weekend.

According to a Cadillac Fairview spokesperson, mall management was alerted by Uniqlo that one of its shoppers had tested positive for COVID-19 and had been in their store.

“The client and CF have taken necessary actions as advised by Public Health by arranging a deep-clean of the client space. Out of an abundance of caution, the client has closed the store for the time being,” said a Cadillac Fairview spokesperson to Daily Hive.

Last week, several employees at Yorkdale Mall and Sherway Gardens tested positive for the virus, leading to several temporary closures to ensure cleaning and sanitization has been done.

Cases were also found at GoodLife Fitness gyms throughout the GTA, as well as at a Winners location in Markham after a shopper alerted the retailer of their results.

On September 2, Toronto public health staff will be heading to malls and stores to ensure that health and safety requirements are being followed amid the several cases being found in public spaces.

“CF has undertaken extra cleaning of all elevator banks, food court tables, common area seating, doors and stair railings, and all other high-touch points in the complex.”

As for other stores in the mall, they remain open for business at this time.
