There is little more satisfying in life than a badass burger. And there’s no better time than now, on National Cheeseburger day, to treat yourself to one.
Juicy patty, fresh tomato, crispy lettuce, a little special sauce. The best ones, after all, should let the bare bones beef shine through.
Whether you’re looking for something to satisfy your cravings or splurge on the day of all days, here’s a few burger joints to check out in Toronto:
Extra Burger

Extra Burger’s Parkdale location continues to sling out the goods. This smashed patty is topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and special sauce, and it’s your saving grace after one beer too many. Add another patty, or bacon, if you want to really indulge. The spot also offers up a mean fried chicken sandwich — think A MdD’s Junior Chicken, elevated. No matter what, your choice will be bliss served on a potato roll.
Method: Stop by for takeout or order via Uber Eats

With that picture, are words even necessary? No. But we’ll muster some anyway. Potato roll. Smashed patty. Melty cheese. Juicy tomato. Crispy lettuce. Special sauce. And the perfect size for one hand, which makes it that much easier to double fist. Bacon, though never a bad idea, is honestly not necessary. This baby holds its own.

Harry’s is back. This beloved no-frills joint is serving out of currently-closed Bar Raval, where you can drop in to retrieve a Plain Jane, or any of the spot’s other iconic burger offerings. If you opt for the classic, the Plain Jane’s beef patty is simply dressed with cheese, pickles, onion and ketchup, and served with perfectly crispy fries.

Tuck is getting an honourable mention here. While the spot isn’t currently offering any of their hot food for takeout or delivery, they have tested a DIY kit for their iconic burgers, and their phenomenal bacon — which oft tops those burgs — is available for curbside pick-up, too. Keep an eye on their Instagram account to learn if and when they’ll be offering more burger kits, so you can jump on the chance to grill up a juicy handheld at home.
