Toronto Blue Jays fans could wind up seeing pitcher Trey Yesavage in the big leagues way sooner than anybody had projected.
Ranked as the best prospect in the Blue Jays system and the 25th prospect in all of baseball, Yesavage has quickly risen in the ranks of the minor leagues this season and has recently been appearing out of the bullpen for Triple-A Buffalo. In his last three outings, he’s pitched 12.1 innings while giving up just four earned runs and an incredible 19 strikeouts.

Yesavage projects as a starting pitcher in the future, but at just 22 years old, he is a solid option for the bullpen. In fact, his strong performance coming out of the pen in Triple-A has many calling for him to be called up to the Blue Jays before the end of the season.
The Blue Jays’ bullpen has been atrocious as of late and is quickly becoming the team’s Achilles heel. Yesavage’s ability to miss bats could wind up being of big use, even with his lack of experience.
“There’s guys that we think can help us win games at the major-league level, and I think he’s put himself in that conversation,” manager John Schneider told reporters earlier this week. Based on that comment, it sounds as though they are at the very least considering giving Yesavage a shot.
Though Yesavage wasn’t added to the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster on Monday, he still has a chance to be postseason eligible with a commissioner’s exemption to replace an injured player. Based on what he’s shown all season long, one can’t help but think he would be a big addition to the 81-59 Jays right now.
