Whether the Toronto Blue Jays had a good or bad trade deadline day depends largely on who you talk to.
The Blue Jays made three moves on deadline day that saw them bring in Shane Bieber, first baseman Ty France, and reliever Louis Varland. They were also able to add some catching depth to the minor leagues in Brandon Valenzuela.
While the Jays entered the deadline first in the AL East, there are still some who are hesitant about the team being a true contender this season. After all, the vast majority predicted they would miss the playoffs altogether.
It seems as though management may still be a bit unsure as well, as they were able to make some solid moves to improve their team, but didn’t take any massive swings by offering up any of their biggest prospects. Failing to do that had many fans upset with GM Ross Atkins and the rest of his managerial staff.

There has been plenty of frustration from the fanbase projected towards Atkins in recent years, and for at least some, that frustration remains after what some felt was an underwhelming deadline.
“Get rid of Atkins no matter what happens after this season,” one user wrote on X.

While some were frustrated, others commended Atkins for making improvements that this team needed help with. Going into the deadline, the biggest need was a relief pitcher, which he was able to add in Varland, while also bringing in Seranthony Dominguez from the Baltimore Orioles days prior.
Atkins was also able to bring in the right-hand bat he was after in France. Both additions, along with the add of the day in Bieber, didn’t go unnoticed by some Jays fans.
“Two nice bullpen arms, a starter, and a bat. Not bad,” one Jays fan voiced on X.
Others flooded the Blue Jays’ Instagram account to share similar messages of positivity.

Whether the moves made at the deadline and in the days leading up were enough remains to be seen. The one thing that is for sure is that Blue Jays fans throughout Canada are in store for some exciting months of baseball, as this team hasn’t had this much hype surrounding them since 2016.
