The top activities to indulge in at this year's Sugar Shack in Toronto

Feb 6 2020, 10:21 pm

If there’s ever been a sure sign of spring is coming back some day, this is it.

Sugar Shack will be returning to Toronto’s waterfront in March, which means that regardless of what’s going on with the weather right now, warmer days are on their way.

Presented by Redpath, the free-entry event is bringing all things maple to the waterfront on March 14 and 15 from 11 am to 5 pm.

And in case you prefer to plan ahead, these are our top suggestions for how to tap into your inner Canadian and fully enjoy the festival:

Break out the plaid

Each day, watch a winter Lumberjack Show from Tim Burr, the Circus Lumberjack. The show has everything from fire to balancing, chainsaws to juggling.

Take a sticky selfie

With two Sugar Shacks serving up fresh Ontario Maple Taffy from Muskoka Lodge farms all weekend long, you will want to make sure you get the perfect maple taffy, sticky selfie!

Get cozy

Sugar Shack

Snag a spot by the fire pit or wood fire stove and enjoy some free hot chocolate from Redpath Sugar.

Catch a show on the inflatable stage

Live music from The Great Canadian Fiddle Show and the Mark Laforme band will be entertaining visitors all weekend on the Bayside Village stage.

Indulge in all the maple-infused foods

Sugar Shack

From purple coloured waffles to maple buffalo tater-tot poutine, and pancakes stuffed with maple sugar, be sure to come hungry.

Build your own ice castle

Sugar Shack

There will be no shortage of ice activities, presented by Menkes, including Plinko, beanbag toss, and ice building bricks.

Try some maple water

Visit the maple sugaring demonstration to learn more about the process of making maple taffy, maple syrup and maple sugar – they even let you taste test the process.

Bring your pooch

Don’t forget to bring along your four-legged friends, who are totally welcome at this sweet event.

Relax on the beach

Sugar Shack

Toronto’s waterfront is transformed during the colder months into a winter wonderland. Indulge in the beauty of a Canadian winter and lounge on the beach with your pals. Just… don’t forget your coat.

Make it a staycation

If you want a mini-escape, you can stay on the waterfront all weekend long. Westin Harbour Castle is providing complimentary valet parking for one vehicle during your stay until March 31, so you can enjoy all of the waterfront winter events.
