If you’ve ever wanted to attend an event that combines the elegance of Royal Ascot with the excitement of the Kentucky Derby, now’s your chance.

The Greenwood Stakes, which feature an afternoon of high-stakes horse races, fashion, art installations, mixologist competitions, live music, gourmet food and lawn games, are set to kick off the summer season in style in Toronto.

Now in its sophomore year, the event will take place through the afternoon of Saturday, May 25 at Woodbine Racetrack. Presented once again by event producers Parade Agency and The Social Concierge, this year will see the event’s footprint expand to the brand new Trackside Paddock area.

The Stakes will be the debut event of the new space, located on the inside of the EP Taylor Turf Course, created as part of Woodbine’s ongoing renovations.

Named in homage to the 19th century Greenwood Raceway that had its heyday in Toronto’s roaring 20s, this event will bring out the city’s see-and-be-seen crowd, clad in bespoke seersucker suits, fascinators and Southern Belle-inspired finery to take part in the festivities of a day at the track.

The centrepiece of the day will be the running of the thrilling thoroughbred Greenwood Stakes races, with a post time of 1 pm. The $125,000 Greenwood Stakes is for Ontario-bred horses three years and older, and will be contested over six furlongs.

Full programming, food and beverage details for the Greenwood Stakes will be announced in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.

“We have been thrilled with the response from young business and hospitality professionals, artists, entrepreneurs and fashionistas,” said Tyson Villeneuve, partner with The Social Concierge.

“Toronto is a world-class city and Torontonians have a fierce sense of individual style. We expect our guests to be upping their game even further this year as we cement the Greenwood Stakes as Toronto’s must-attend fashion-forward social affair to kick off the summer.”

The Greenwood Stakes draws on signature elements of Vancouver-based sister event Deighton Cup – dubbed by press and attendees as the city’s biggest fashion and social affair of the summer, attracting more than 6,000 people every year.

The event brings both the Style Stakes Best Dressed Awards and the Cocktail Jockey Mixology Showcase to Toronto.

So, it’s the perfect way to spend a spring day, really.
