Sophie Gregoire Trudeau tests positive for coronavirus
A statement late Thursday evening by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) indicates Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Justin Trudeau, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Tests were conducted after she showed symptoms of a mild flu and a low-grade fever last night. However, she is said to be feeling well and is taking all recommended precautions. She was recently in London, UK for an event.
Health officials will reach out to those who have been in contact with her.

The Prime Minister is said to be in good health with no symptoms, but as a precautionary measure he will remain in isolation for a period of 14 days.
“On the advice of doctors, he will not be tested at this stage since he has no symptoms. For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently,” reads the statement.
He has been working virtually and over the phone, continuing to fully assume his duties; the statement notes he has spoken with the leaders of Italy, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and participated in a meeting of the special cabinet committee on COVID-19. He also held a meeting with the Minister of Finance on the current economic situation, and spoke to representatives of the country’s business and labour organizations.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the country on Friday.
“Canada has a well-equipped public health system to deal with the spread of COVID-19. We continue to encourage all Canadians to follow their advice and recommendations,” continues the statement.
“We recognize people are anxious, which is why we will work non-stop to ensure their safety and well-being. Since the beginning of the outbreak, all our decisions have been based on the best advice and evidence from our public health experts — that is how we will reduce the risk to Canadians.”
A previous statement issued earlier on Thursday stated Sophie “immediately sought medical advice” after experiencing the symptoms consistent with the coronavirus.
Various levels of governments across the country have implemented their own preventative measures to slow down the pandemic, especially in recent days.
As of March 12, there are 138 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada, which is a 34% increase compared to the previous day. Here is a breakdown:
