Toronto's newest outdoor skating rink opens tomorrow

It’s time to dust off your skates and hit the ice, as Toronto’s newest outdoor skating rink is finally opening this Friday.

Located at Sir John A. Macdonald Plaza, outside of Union Station, this new skating rink will be open to the public from November 29 through December 4.

The new rink will be open daily (weather permitting), will be completely free of charge, and promises to keep you in a festive mood throughout the busy holiday season.

Whether it’s your first time on ice or you’re a seasoned pro, skating lessons and helmet rentals will both be available for free, courtesy of TD and Union.

“Union Station, the country’s busiest transit hub, is already a destination for thousands of commuters and visitors to Toronto every day,” said Mayor John Tory.

“And now for the holiday season, it becomes a destination for those looking for a bit of winter fun. Union Holiday will activate Front Street with the first ice rink ever created at the front door to our city.”

As part of the experience, visitors will also be able to enjoy snacks and beverages from a rotating retail booth, check out the latest holiday gifts in the Best Buy Warming Lounge, and listen to local DJ talent from the TD Music Booth.

Inside Union Station, the historic West Wing will be decorated for the holiday season and feature free daily musical performances on the Steinway & Sons Spirio, the world’s finest high-resolution player piano, as well as a mix of live performances.

Additionally, visitors can shop for gifts at one of Union Station’s many retailers in the Front Street Promenade on the lower level below the Great Hall and from December 9 to 24 have their gifts wrapped for free at the TD gift-wrapping station in the West Wing.
