John Schneider ties Blue Jays record held by Cito Gaston

John Schneider has tied Cito Gaston as the fastest manager in Toronto Blue Jays franchise history to reach 100 wins.

Schneider accomplished the feat on Friday afternoon after the Blue Jays defeated the San Diego Padres by a 4-0 final. The win continues what has been a strong stretch of ball as of late for Schneider’s club, as they own a 7-3 record through their past 10 games.

Schneider started his coaching career at the MLB level in 2019, when he was promoted to the Blue Jays staff to work with their catchers. He remained in that role until 2022, when he was once again promoted, this time to become their bench coach.

Schneider’s time as the team’s bench coach was short-lived, as he was given the interim manager title in July of that same year after Charlie Montoyo was fired. Schneider led the Blue Jays to a 46-28 record down the stretch, which not only allowed him to remove the interim tag from his title but earned him a three-year extension.

Despite this feat, Schneider has been one of many on the Blue Jays who have been criticized this year due to the team’s inconsistencies. They seem to be rounding a corner, though most had envisioned that their record through 97 games would be stronger than 54-43. That said, even with their inconsistencies, they sit in a wild card position. If they can keep building off this recent stretch, they should find themselves in the playoffs once again at season’s end.
