The Toronto District School Board has kept a Scarborough high school open after reporting more than 10 students testing positive for COVID-19.
According to the TDSB COVID-19 advisory page, 13 students at Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Insitute, located at 150 Tapscott Road, have confirmed testing positive for the virus.
Despite the number of students, the school remains open at this time.
A TDSB spokesperson confirmed the cases and states that Toronto Public Health does not “believe a closure is necessary.”
“As a result, 7 staff and 69 students have been asked to self isolate. We take our lead from Toronto Public Health, which does not currently believe a closure is necessary,” said the TDSB spokesperson.
“In the meantime, the school continues to follow the necessary health and safety protocols such as enhancing cleaning, the wearing of masks, proper hand hygiene and physical distancing.”
This news comes after the government of Ontario updated cases found in schools across the province on Monday, reaching a total of 3,387 cases since September.
According to the provincial government, 63 of the new cases are student-related, 14 are staff-related, and 29 are unidentified, making it a total of 106 new cases in 24 hours.
