Ontario schools report over half of total COVID-19 cases are among students
The Government of Ontario confirms a total of almost 3,400 COVID-19 cases have been reported by schools since mid-September with over half from students.
According to the provincial government, 63 of the new cases are student-related, 14 are staff-related, and 29 are unidentified, making it a total of 106 new cases in 24 hours.
The new total of COVID-19 cases has reached 3,387 since back to school.
There has been a reported 1,143 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 2,244 cases reported 14 or more days before that.
The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.
Out of the total cases recorded since September, about 56% of cases have been reported from students.
The province also confirms one school closure out of the 683 schools currently reporting cases.
As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 594 total confirmed cases, as well as 108 centres and 432 homes closed.
On Monday, the provincial government confirmed 1,487 new COVID-19 cases, an increase from Sunday’s 1,248 but a decrease from Saturday’s 1,581.
