A refugee hiring event featuring a number of top Canadian employers eager to employ newcomers to the Greater Toronto Area is coming to the Peel Region this week.

Hosted by ACCES Employment, this hiring fair is the first of its kind in the Peel Region, and will feature 120 scheduled in-person interviews for refugee job seekers with various employers seeking to add diverse talent to their corporate ranks.

Participating employers include Metro Ontario Inc., Martinrea Automotive Inc. operating as Alfield Industries, ONroute Canada, HMS Host, Staples, Shopify, SDI Marketing, and GTAA.

According to organizers, this event is the first-of-its-kind event for Peel Region and follows up on a similar “groundbreaking” event held in Toronto last month, attended by Mayor John Tory and Senator Ratna Omidvar.

“The refugee hiring event is a great initiative…getting ready for the Canadian job market with all of its written and unwritten rules is stressful…but getting the first job is the first stepping stone to success,” said Senator Omidvar in a statement.

According to ACCES Employment’s VP of Corporate Engagement, Anita Carroll, this is an “important collaboration in the Region of Peel. We had a waitlist of employers and we are excited to be able to support Refugees across the GTA and in Peel Region.”
