Portland Variety is closing before the end of this month
King West’s beloved Portland Variety has announced that it’ll be closing before the end of the month.
“Our final service will be on Saturday, September 28,” reads an Instagram post, before offering eternal thanks to patrons for support through 2019, which was “difficult for the entire Portland family.”
Milton Nunes, the restaurant’s owner, passed away on March 3.

The caption reflects on how the space is like a second home for many staff, and that numerous relationships were built during early mornings and late nights while watching the neighbourhood evolve.
“All our staff, past and present, thank you for shaping Portlandās identity and approaching each day with professionalism. Each and every one of you have made sacrifices along the way and for that we are incredibly grateful,” it reads.

And for those who are major fan’s of the brand’s fierce cookies, don’t fear. They’ll still be available at Le Gourmand, also by Nunes, so the flavours of this spot can carry on.
