Police ask people not to call 9-1-1 over someone sneezing

Apr 3 2020, 2:49 pm

Halton Police have put out a reminder that someone sneezing does not warrant a 9-1-1 call.

The police force shared a post to Twitter early Friday morning, noting that while it may cause distress to see someone sneeze, but it’s not an appropriate reason to call emergency services.

They ended their tweet with the hashtag #SaveItForEmergencies which, history would show, is consistent with how police are expecting the public to access their services.

As recently as February, York Regional Police shared a different PSA about appropriate reasons to call 9-1-1.

Also on Twitter, the police service shared a recording of a 9-1-1 dispatch in which someone called to complain about snowplows reportedly moving slowly on the highway. They were concerned they were going to be late for work.

In that case, as in this case, the lesson remains the same: Save it for emergencies.
