Plant-based restaurants in Toronto are flourishing! Just recently we announced the impending arrival of vegan pizza parlour Virtuous Pie, and now Queen West is also getting a brand new spot for vegan eating!

Parka Food Co. is a quick-service concept from Eric Chao who describes the incoming restaurant as “driven by a mission to change the way people eat.” In an interview with Daily Hive, Chao goes on to explain that, “The menu is focused on familiar comfort food classics but with a unique twist as the entire menu will be plant-based and vegetable-driven. There is also a strong focus on serving real, quality food that is made in-house and made to order from fresh ingredients.”

On the menu, expect signature dishes such as an Eggplant Burger, Portobello Burger, Truffle Mushroom Mac (N Cheese), Tomato Soup, and Fries Supreme.

Once open, expect the restaurant to serve both lunch and dinner while offering a “casual vibe and enough seating that you may be inclined to spend time there with friends.”

Chao shares that “the interior design is inspired by the menu and philosophy of Parka – clean, natural, comfort-oriented. There will be an open kitchen so customers can see everything being prepared and displays of vegetables used for cooking. Aesthetically, the space draws influence from Scandinavian design, infused with a youthful, casual vibe.”

Look forward to a grand opening sometime in fall 2017.
