If you receive a phone call and it says provincial police are calling, don’t answer it.
Ontario Provincial Police are warning the public that scammers are now programming phone call displays to say the provincial law enforcement agency is calling.
And while phone scams primarily target the elderly, police say everyone is at risk.

In addition to their warning, the OPP also shared an audio clip from the scammers.
According to the clip, the scammers will call and threaten the person on the other end of the line for their personal information and if they don’t comply, legal action will be taken.
Police are advising that if you do receive a phone call that appears to be from the OPP to hang up immediately.
As well, police are reminding the public to never give out your personal information such as passwords, account numbers, and financial information.
