Ontario schools report highest daily COVID-19 count since September

The Government of Ontario is reporting 144 more COVID-19 cases in schools in Wednesday’s update, bringing the total to 1,569 across the province.

According to the provincial government, 66 of the new cases are student-related, 13 are staff-related, and 65 are unidentified.

There has been a reported 823 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 746 cases reported 14 or more days before that.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

Out of the 1,569 cases reported since September, 55.7% of cases have been reported from students.

Ontario continues to report four school closures out of the 518 schools with reported cases.

As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 342 total confirmed cases, as well as 82 centres and 357 homes closed.

This update comes as the provincial government confirms 790 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday morning, a decrease from the day before.

Cases have been high recently with Tuesday’s 821Monday’s 704Sunday’s 658Saturday’s 805, and Friday’s 712.

Last Friday, October 9, cases stood at 939, which was the highest count to date throughout the pandemic.
