Ontario schools reports over 100 new COVID-19 cases, 6 closures

The Government of Ontario reports over 100 new COVID-19 cases in schools in the last 24 hours, including more school closures.

According to the provincial government, 99 cases reported today are student-related, and 123 are staff-related.

The new total has now reached 4,470 since back to school.

There have been 1,180 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 3,290 reported 14 or more days before that.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

Out of the total cases recorded since September, about 62% have been from students.

The province now confirms six school closures out of the 671 schools that have cases.

As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 748 total confirmed cases with 126 centres and 451 homes closed.

On Friday, the provincial government confirmed 1,855 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day count since the pandemic began.

This is an increase from Thursday’s 1,478,  Wednesday’s 1,373Tuesday’s 1,009, which was low due to “technical issues,” Monday’s 1,589Saturday’s 1,588, and Sunday’s 1,534.
