The Government of Ontario confirms there have been 37 more COVID-19 related deaths, with 510 new cases, bringing the total to 12,245, as of Wednesday morning.

Almost half of the cases have been resolved at 6,221.

Compared to Tuesday’s 551 confirmed new cases and Monday’s 606, there has been a slight decrease in confirmed coronavirus patients over the past days.

So far, a total of 659 people have died from coronavirus in Ontario with 6,845 cases currently under investigation.

There have also been 125 outbreaks reported in long-term care homes, an increase of four from Monday’s report.

There are 295 deaths reported among residents and patients in long-term care homes, an increased of 22 deaths in one day, accounting for the majority of new deaths confirmed in Ontario.

The Greater Toronto Area public health units account for more than half of the cases at 59.3%.

Of the total cases, 42.2% are male and 56.8% are female, with 44% of cases aged 60 years and older.

To date, there are 878 hospitalized, with 243 in ICU, and 192 patients are on ventilators.

According to the province, 10,361 tests were completed in a day — the numbers have been steadily increasing since Monday. But, Premier Doug Ford said by the end of the month he wants to see 14,000 tests done daily.

On Monday, Ontario health officials said that community spread in the province has likely peaked as coronavirus totals trend towards the “best case scenario.”

Now, health officials predict total cases will be 20,000 or less by the end of the month compared to the 80,000 that was originally projected in March.

However, cases and deaths in long-term care homes and other congregate settings will continue to rise.

The daily summary is based on data reported by the 34 public health units across Ontario and recorded in the province’s integrated Public Health Information System (iPHIS), according to the Ontario government.

iPHIS is the Ministry of Health’s disease reporting system where data is regularly updated, and where each daily summary is pulled at 4 pm the previous day.
