NHL agrees to $11-billion TV deal with Rogers that will keep games on Sportsnet: report

Sportsnet will continue to be the home of NHL hockey in Canada for another 12 years.
Rogers has stepped up to secure the record-setting C$11-billion deal, according to a new report from Sportico.
The current Canadian NHL television rights deal was set to expire at the end of next season, fuelling speculation on the future home of NHL hockey in Canada.
The deal was reportedly struck during Rogers’ exclusive 60-day negotiation window, which began on New Year’s Day.
If this holds, the new deal would kick in for the 2026-27 season, and NHL hockey will continue to be broadcast on Sportsnet for another 12 years, ending after the 2037-38 season.
The total and per-year average of this new deal is more than double the current agreement with Rogers. NHL owners have reportedly been directed to approve this new TV deal, and it could be announced as soon as this week.
The previous 12-year deal between the NHL and Rogers was signed back in 2013 and clocked in at $5.2 billion. That deal was a major shift for hockey fans as it meant nationally broadcast games would no longer be aired on TSN.
Amazon Prime bought the rights to nationally broadcast Monday night games in the last two years of the current deal. It remains to be seen if Amazon will continue to get a cut of games moving forward with this new agreement.
This is far from the only news about a new television deal that will come out over the next few seasons. The current U.S. television deals with ESPN and Turner are set to expire at the end of the 2027-28 season.
