Metrolinx attacked by North Korean virus, transit agency confirms

Metrolinx was recently attacked by a virus known to originate in North Korea, the Ontario transit agency has confirmed.

The virus is thought to have been routed through Russia, and is believed to have targeted many organizations, not just the agency.

Spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins told Daily Hive she couldn’t give out a lot of information about exactly what happened for security reasons.

“We know and confirm that customer information was at no time ever breached, ever,” she said.

“Nor was safety ever compromised at any given time, because some of our systems are related to our trains and buses, and the safe operation of those trains and buses.

“Neither of those two issues were ever compromised.”
