Maple Leaf Square viewing party CANCELLED for today's game

Extreme winter weather has once again spoiled the party for Toronto sports fans, as the viewing party in Maple Leaf Square has once again been cancelled for tonight’s playoff game.

The Maple Leafs host the Bruins in Game 3 of their first round series at 7 pm ET.

Here’s the official word from MLSE:

Due to dangerous conditions following the ice storm in Toronto this weekend, and with the safety of our fans in mind, the fan tailgate party in Maple Leaf Square for tonight’s playoff game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins has been cancelled.

Fans attending tonight’s game are encouraged to take public transit where possible.

Conditions will continue to be monitored over the next 24 hours to determine status of the fan tailgate parties in Maple Leaf Square for events scheduled tomorrow (Raptors vs. Wizards) and Thursday (Maple Leafs vs. Bruins).

After being hit with an ice storm over the weekend, a rainfall warning has been issued for Toronto today.

It’s the second straight time Maple Leaf Square has been shutdown because of Mother Nature, as viewing parties for the Leafs and Raptors playoff games on Saturday were also cancelled.

Up 2-0 on the Leafs in the series, the party has been spoiled by the Boston Bruins more than the weather up to this point. It’s effectively must-win territory for Toronto tonight, as few teams in NHL history have ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit.
