Popular Canadian YouTube creator taking break to focus on mental health (VIDEO)
With an army of over 14 million loyal subscribers and eight consecutive years of pumping out top-tier content under her belt, Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh is taking a break.
Singh says she doesn’t understand YouTube anymore and is now taking a break to focus on her mental health.
The announcement from the Ontario-born YouTuber, who is known for her comedy skits and empowering videos, was shared on YouTube with the title “I’ll see you soon” on Tuesday and has already picked up well over one million views since going live.
“This is not clickbait. I’m not trying to get on the trending page. I’m not trying to make a dramatic thumbnail to get views,” she began. “The title is not a lie. I am planning to take a break from YouTube.”
As for her hiatus, Singh says while there are many reasons, she’s leaving “first and foremost” for her mental health.
Singh who also goes by the nickname Superwoman, says she’s “mentally, physically and emotionally and spiritually exhausted.”
She also used her announcement to give shoutouts to other vloggers who recently took breaks from the platform to focus on their mental health including Alisha Marie and Grace Helbig.
While Singh’s decision to leave is “in no way a reflection” of how she feels about the platform, she did emphasize her frustrations with YouTube describing it as a place where creators believe they must “pump out content consistently even at the cost of our life and our health and our mental health and our happiness.”
And while Singh’s supporters are sad to see her go, they’re definitely rallying around the star and sharing words of encouragement on social media:
Your happiness comes first. It’s a decision you made and it’s a good one bc we truly just want you to be your happiest self. YouTube did change, a lot. We definitely see that. So we understand the fact that you, a creator, want to take a step back We’ll be waiting for you. ❤

The outpouring of support definitely didn’t go unnoticed by Singh either, as the Canadian YouTuber shared a heartfelt thank you on Twitter.
