It was a historical night for the Toronto Raptors, who became the first non-American team to win an NBA championship on Thursday.

But it was also history-making for another reason, as Jeremy Lin became the first Asian-American to win an NBA title. Lin was the second Asian-American to ever make the Finals, following in the footsteps of Jordan Clarkson, whose mother is half Filipino, who made it with the Cavaliers last year.

Lin is the son of Taiwanese parents and very proud of his heritage. It must have been extra sweet to win in Oakland, which is a home game for the Palo Alto, California native.

He shared the moment with his mom, posting a video with her on Instagram.

Lin, who joined the Raptors in February, didn’t see much playing time in the Finals – only one minute to be exact.

After breaking into the league with great fanfare, the 30-year-old has been slowed by injuries in recent years, and was forced to sit out nearly an entire season in 2017-18.

The Raptors have a very diverse team, beginning with President Masai Ujiri, who is from Nigeria. The team also includes Pascal Siakam (Cameroon), Marc Gasol (Spain), Serge Ibaka (Republic of the Congo), Chris Boucher (Canada), and OG Anunoby, who was born in England.
