Regardless of the season, the Toronto Island is always a favourite local escape from the city.
And this season, the multiple extreme cold weather alerts and snowfall records that have been broken made the shores around the island freeze like it does most winters.
Last year, we saw everything from brave souls playing hockey to ice boating on the frozen harbour, for instance.

And while it may be a pretty sight, Toronto Police are warning the public to stay off the ice.
“Even with all the cold, it’s still not safe to be out there,” said Officer Randall Arsenault last year.
But like last year, people have been out standing and skating on the Island harbour ice again.
If you’re thinking of lacing up on the harbour, you’re skating at your own risk. Also, there are always plenty of other rinks for you to try in the city.
