After nearly 20 years on Adelaide Street, Hy’s Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar has officially relocated to 365 Bay Street, at the corner of Richmond.

The restaurant’s first location opened on Richmond Street in 1970, before moving to Adelaide in 1999. Now, the spot has (almost) returned home.

The new 18,000-sq-ft space welcomes the establishment into its 65th year of operation, building on Hy’s classic menu and tableside experience with the addition of an expanded bar and lounge program.

Designed by Vancouver-based Elaine Thorsell, and built by the team at Anjinnov Construction, each of the restaurant’s three levels aims to offer guests a different experience from the one before. Anticipate a lush colour palette, leather and velvet, contemporary Canadian art, granite and metal accents, and large windows that offer views of Richmond.

“The steakhouse is as much about the atmosphere as it is the menu. Hy’s is trusted for both, and this is the heart of the new flagship on Bay Street,” said Neil Aisenstat, president and CEO, and son of the founder of Hy’s Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar in a release.

“With this spectacular new space we are celebrating the fact that for 65 years — 50 in Toronto — Hy’s has been known as the quintessential Canadian steakhouse, offering the highest quality of Alberta Prime steaks, classic cocktails, and warm, professional service across the country.”

Fronted by Hy’s veteran chef Saku Velummylum, the core menus are reliable: featuring Canadian Prime steaks aged a minimum of 28 days and grilled to order, alongside starters and sides such as Cheese Toast and Caesar Salad prepared tableside. The restaurant’s lunch, dinner and Happy Hour emphasize local produce and plant-based options, including an Organic Vegan Bowl and Cauliflower Fritters.

And of course, you can count on classic cocktails like the Hy Jink with Crown Royal Extra Rare, hazelnut liqueur, honey syrup, and black lemon bitters. Upstairs, the exclusive whisky and champagne bar is fully stocked — so arrive thirsty.
