Another day, another Juan Soto/Toronto Blue Jays report.

Over the past few weeks, rumours about the Jays’ pursuit of the superstar free agent outfielder have been piling up. The latest offers another good sign for fans who want the big-name talent to call the Rogers Centre home.

Quoting an unnamed Blue Jays front office executive, baseball insider Hector Gomez revealed in a Friday X post that the Jays are far more interested in signing the player than most people believe.

“The Blue Jays are a lot more in on Juan Soto than most believe,” wrote Gomez. “People would be ‘shocked’ when they find out how much the Jays want Soto.”

Soto, a 26-year-old outfielder who recently completed his first season with the New York Yankees, is widely regarded as the most coveted player available this offseason and could command a deal worth over $700 million.

And Gomez’s update is far from the first report connecting the Santo Domingo native to Toronto.

Last week, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman said the Jays are one of seven teams that have officially contacted Juan Soto’s camp, including his agent, Scott Boras.

Then, in an article published Tuesday morning, ESPN’s Jeff Passan provided additional details, revealing that the Blue Jays will soon have the first opportunity to make their pitch to Soto.

“Some of the biggest markets in baseball are lining up for his services. Soto is starting to take meetings with teams this week in California, and the Toronto Blue Jays will be first, according to major league sources. After trying to land Shohei Ohtani last winter, the Blue Jays are serious about adding a star alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and have targeted Soto,” Passan wrote.

Time will tell if the Jays, who finished last in the American League East this past season, are serious about bringing big-money talent to town. If not, this could be like the infamous Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes fiasco.
