Update March 31, 2021: Mayor John Tory and Premier Doug Ford announced a new $925 domestic vaccine production facility that will open in Toronto.

Premier Doug Ford and Toronto Mayor John Tory will speak together at a news conference Wednesday morning as COVID-19 cases in Ontario soar.

Ford hinted Tuesday that he wouldn’t hesitate to impose stricter lockdown conditions to control virus spread and protect people’s health.

Recently some restrictions have relaxed, with Ontario allowing patio dining and outdoor fitness in Grey-Lockdown zones. Personal care businesses are also supposed to re-open on April 12, but on Monday, Tory said that may not happen if virus indicators continue to be worrisome.

Ontario has seen daily case counts over 2,000 for six days now and a troubling rise in hospital and ICU admissions.

The mayor will join the premier in North York for the announcement at 10 am.
