Ford and Lecce to make announcement with top health officials today

Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce are set to make an announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

Ford and Lecce will be joined by top health officials Dr. Dirk Huyer, Chief Coroner for Ontario, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health.

The announcement will likely address education, with the school year just around the corner.

On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to discuss the COVID-19 situation, and along with the return to school this fall.

Ontario’s $309 million back-to-school plan has received criticism for not reducing class sizes for elementary classes.

The province then “unlocked” $500 million in reserve funds for school boards to use, to have the physical distancing they need in classrooms.

And Lecce allowed for school boards to have staggered start times to reduce the amount of children entering school at the same time.

The press briefing will take plan from Queen’s Park at 1 pm.
