Ford to make announcement after releasing Ontario's new restriction guidelines

Nov 4 2020, 2:12 pm

Premier Doug Ford is expected to give an announcement after releasing Ontario’s new colour-coded guidelines for the regions experiencing different COVID-19 case rates.

Ford will be joined by Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance, Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure, and Peter Bethlenfalvy, President of the Treasury Board.

On Tuesday, Ford released the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework which wants to ensure there is a limit of transmission of the virus, avoid closures, keep schools and childcare open, maintain healthcare and public health system capacity, protect vulnerable populations, and provide additional supports where possible.

The province has come up with five categories that each have their distinct guidelines to help stop the spread of the virus. The five categories include: prevent (green); protect (yellow); restrict (orange); control (red); and lockdown (grey).

The COVID-19 hotspots Peel, York Region, and Ottawa will move from the control to the restrict level on Saturday, November 7. Toronto will tentatively move to the restrict level on November 14, at the request of Mayor John Tory and at the discretion of public health officials.

The press briefing will take place at 1 pm in Minden Hills, Ontario.
